The activation instructions can be found here: http://www.4ginfo.com/index.php/not-in-baltimore-you-can-still-activate-your-wimax-modem.html

HOWEVER, it is not likely that your XOHM modem will work in Chicago right now - our employees who successfully activated their XOHM accounts using those instructions in Chicago are no longer seeing service (despite the fact that it worked for several months).

That is good news, wakeman - which XOHM modem are you using in Chicago, out of curiosity?

I'm using the Zyxel one right now.

I'll see if I can try the zte one later in the week, I was letting a friend try it out but he has a mac and I can't find those drivers now that the developer site has been taken down, so I'll have to get it back.

I'm still up in Burr Ridge and it's working great.

It stopped working at my house about 6 weeks ago. Then IIRC last Saturday there was a man lift doing work on what I am thinking was the tower I was using. I got home and not the light on my card is red... Sad They're up to something in chicago.

Seems to be down in the south-eastern section of Schaumburg. I haven't tried to connect for about two months now, but it is definitely dead as of today.

My connection in Aurora (not too far from Fox Valley Mall) is working ok, but it is intermittent.

I sure wish we knew what Xohm/Clear was doing with the towers now.

That makes 2 of us!! I've called CS a few times and they're shocked that I'm on in Chicago and they have no info. They said they can get tower listings for Baltimore, but that's it.

Mine is still working way more often than not...but right now happens to be one of those "not" times Rolling Eyes

Typically it works in the early morning (now) and then the afternoon (hasn't been down in the late afternoon...yet). My roomate says the late morning has been especially bad but I'm at work so that hasn't bugged me! It's always back up in a few hours or when I check the next day.

We're sharing some wifi from our friends next door as a back-up so it hasn't been too big of an issue and I'll likely keep the service until it goes completely dead for several days....posting updates when people ask.

Thanks for the update, Wake.

I'm going to test it at various times this weekend. I keep the Xohm modem on my sailboat in Burnham Harbor, over by Soldier Field. I'd really love to have a fast connection on the boat this summer. We'll see....

Service was back when I checked again at 9am and the speeds are consistant with what I had been getting.

I have some other stuff going on like a torrent uploading at about 25k so interpret those speeds as you wish. I had way faster speeds (10 down/ 3.5 up) when I tested it at the theater district Argo tea several months ago.

If anybody has found the mac drivers I'd be happy to check downtown again as well as whatever suburb is hosting the bike races of the weekend.

edit: I found the drivers

I just set the modem up at my condo in river north. Experienced good speeds (3-4 megs down, 1-2 up) and full signal bars, but it seems to lose connection to the internet intermittently. I transferred the modem to my boat in Burnham harbor and I get one bar if any and a intermittent connection. Haven't taken it out of the harbor yet.

Tech support works well. Sorry if this is slightly off topic but it didn't seem to fit under any of the other categories so I'm just putting it here (for now).

My bank had some security breach or whatever it is that happens once or so per year that causes them to send me a new debit/credit card and deactivate my old one. So being the noob that I am I totally forgot to update all of my accounts online with the new number, including Xohm.

The first thing that happens when you try to check your mail in the morning after missing a payment is the xohm.com home page pops up with a link to activate. So you log in and an "outstanding balance due" page pops up prompting you for your payment info. Of course, this page doesn't work (that would just make things too easy) and says my payment can not be processed at this time, try again later....but I want my internet now so that's just not going to fly. So I try a different browser (safari & firefox for mac through my home base-station) which still doesn't work so off I go dialing the number to the dreaded tech support.

I'm sitting on hold for awhile and figure I'll click the account info link to look up my 6 digit account number to make things quick and easy but no luck, only the "outstanding balance due" page pops up. Anyway, I finally get through to a person who was almost eerily friendly and cheerful sounding for a Sunday morning at 10 am (central) who not only processed the current payment but also updated my account at the same time so this wont happen again next month. All she needed was the phone number on my account, name and my security question/answer to look up everything and authorize changes, and my new payment info.

After all this my modem was re-activated/released and I was told to close any browsers I had open before trying to access the web again. I did this, but I didn't think that would help and it didn't (so don't bother with this step if you have a bunch of tabs open and you're not using opera where you can save your session) so it was off to unplug the modem for 5 seconds. (again, I just wanting my internets back so I played the sheep and did so instead of just hitting the reset button) Surprisingly the tech support person waited the interminably long 5 minutes for the modem to come back to life and for me to confirm that everything was working properly.

Twenty minute call including on-hold time, talk, and resetting the modem, super friendly and knowledgeable American sounding support rep. Overall experience grade: B+

Has anyone tried on the south side of Chicago? I'm in Hyde Park and my options are Comcast for $45/month, AT&T for $34 but doesn't work half the time...... no RCN or UVerse in sight for my building. I'm dying for another option--if Xohm was an option in HP....

Met with Autumnmist and tried the ZTE USB modem this morning in Hyde Park in the plaza at 55th & Harper. No luck, the signal light remained red. I'll put together a nice little map like the Portland one if I can find some sites that work.
