The big kickoff for Clearwire's mobile WiMAX in Portland is going on today. Clearwire and Intel will Host a Press Conference at the event. Below are some early news links, many more will be available later.

Thanks for the links, xrayman Smile

A few interesting notes for those interested:

- Clearwire's plans, while already pretty affordable (click here to read more about Clearwire's plans), may go DOWN. Clearwire's chief strategy officer says that they will take feedback from Clear users in Portland and Baltimore and adjust their rates and available plans from there.

- Clearwire has "pre-WiMAX" networks in 40 markets and those will (hopefully) be upgraded to Clear this year.

- XOHM users should be able to access Clear and vice versa

- Clearwire will soon offer an adapter they're calling the Clear Voice Adapter, which will hook your landline (who still has one?) to the Clear home modem and allow users to make unlimited calls within the US via VOIP for just $25/month.

I just found this Information Week article that was published after the Portland launch. It contains info from an interview with Clearwire senior VP and chief marketing officer Atish Gude. Well worth the time to read and provides some insight into what is going on with the Clearwire rollout.
