Clearwire Is Mum But Sprint Talks

News out of Clearwire has been next to none since they launched mobile WiMAX in Portland. The much expected launch of WiMax in DC and Chicago has not taken place. Most of the news articles the last several weeks have been negative for WiMax and positive for LTE. Clearwire has gone silent but Sprint's Todd Rowley, head of the Sprint 4G/WiMAX business unit is talking.
Rowley says the emphasis at Sprint is on "4G" rather than WiMAX. "It suggests to customers that these services are just like the better, faster, more advanced 3G cellular services increasingly being adopted, but even better, faster and more advanced." Rowley responds to the question: "Sprint made endless headlines with its decision to build a nationwide WiMAX network. Now it's not building it. What gives?" That article said absolutely nothing. It's more of the same pointless interview that has been repeating for the past 2 years. My guess is these guys are all waiting for the stimulus money to flow before doing anything.

Needless to say, we're going to see zip in 2009.
