Clearwire to announce strategy on March 5
| Quote: | | WiMax trailblazer (Clearwire) is gearing up to give more details about its strategy on March 5, when it announces its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2008. Those details may include dates for commercial availability of the high-speed mobile data service in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Boston and Dallas-Fort Worth, possibly very soon. |

Clearwire better have a very aggressive rollout plan, Verizon does. The time advantage between WiMax and LTE has about evaporated.
| Quote: | | Verizon Wireless will launch 60Mbps Long Term Evolution "pre-commercial" cellular service, the first in the United States, in two cities late in 2009. Commercial service officially will go live the following year, expanding to 25 to 30 markets. | http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/021809-mwc-verizon.html |

I agree. The only clear outstanding thing that had Wimax over LTE was the deployment schedule. The open licensing of Wimax I think is overrated. That type of stuff helps the small guys, not the big guys. The big guys will belch more into LTE because it's more business as usual when framed in those terms. I also think LTE will have an edge out there because of the 700Mhz spectrum.
Unless they're planning to get all of the 2008 - 2010 cities lit up by EOY 2009, the game is over. I suspect based on scheduling, my first 4G device will be LTE rather than Wimax if that is not the announcement coming from ClearWire. |

| Quote: | For now, Clearwire’s game plan looks like this:
* Expand mobile Wimax network to cover up to 120 million Americans in 80 markets in 2010.
* Bring Wimax to Atlanta, Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia, and Seattle in 2009.
* Launch Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco area in 2010.
* In addition to the recent dual-mode 3G/4G wireless modem to be launched with Sprint, Clearwire plans to launch a personal hotspot that combines Wimax service (Clear service in Clearwire parlance) with Wi-Fi enabled products.
* Meanwhile, Clearwire is leveraging its Intel partnership to have nearly 100 mobile Wimax devices on the market by the end of 2009.

| Will Los Angeles residents be able to access the Las Vegas service once it's up? |

Oh man I hope you're right. That would be fantastic!!! I'm DYING to get WiMax here in Santa Ana!
BTW: Distance between Santa Ana, CA and Las Vegas is 269.72 miles. A four hour drive. Hope that's within range |
