Hello All,
I have the below query.
Is it possible to migrate from 2.5G to 4G WiMAX directly? |

WiMAX and LTE both use new air link interfaces based on MIMO-OFDMA/FDMA. These are not migrations of any existing generation of mobile or WBA, wireless broadband access, network.
Both of these require either new subscriber units or, very likely, a pre-staged customer base migration to multiple mode SUs and embedded devices..
2G-3.5G wireless core networks are migrating to IP based architectures with interface conversion of incumbent protocol networks and services. But this migration can be used to interface WiMAX as well as LTE. However, the objective of development of LTE suppliers is focused more on developing both the interoperability between legacy networks and capability to maintain walled garden type control of services and devices including SIM cards. WiMAX provides less support for legacy transport and services. LTE is, therefore, the majority choice of incumbent mobile operators. _________________ 4G is Green |

Uhhh....
In english the answer is no. But the answer is also no from the consumer side between 2G - 3G or 2.5G - 3G etc. For example, all the people that bought those first iPhones can't use them on the 3G network either.
(I actually did follow 4gpro's answer...but it was close) |

The client hardware looks nearly the same. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

ebiz - from what I have read, the answer seems to be "yes". Clearwire has indicated that their pre-WiMAX networks can be easily upgraded to WiMAX. I remember reading some old reports saying that those pre-WiMAX networks would be the first ones converted to WiMAX, but Clearwire didn't mention that in their most recent announcement...
So we shall see! |
