Looks like AMA was right about the Aug 1 date.
Clear is now available in:
Abilene, TX
Amarillo, TX
Corpus Christi, TX
Killeen, TX
Lubbock, TX
Midland/Odessa, TX
Waco, TX
Bellingham, WA
Boise, ID
Atlanta, GA
Las Vegas, NV
Portland, OR

edit: Note that all of the new cities were part of the 3g Clearwire network, and the coverage for the Clear 4g network is as large or larger than the 3g network coverage. |

| This is really really interesting. Not necessarily because I'm in one of Clearwire's 3G market but because this is a totally new spin on things. This indicates Clear is not exactly asleep at the wheel as many have criticized but just very hush about everything. Regardless, this is very exciting news and if Clear 4G comes to my town I am dumping my ATT home Internet quickly. |

I think the broadband war is escalating(finally!).
In my other posts, I mentioned the possibility of AT&T 3G competition ratcheting up the response here in AMA. One thing I didn't mention was a conversation I had a couple of months ago with a SuddenLink techie (SuddenLink provides broadband & telephone services to parts of West Texas via cable TV connections).
He mentioned to me that SuddenLink was working on a new platform that would be wayyyy faster than anything ever offered before. Going from the current 6-10Mb rates offered by various Bband companies way up to around 100Mb rate(!)
I specifically quizzed him about that rate, and he said that was correct.
Timeframe was to be sometime later in 2009 or into 2010.
Interesting that there's a fair amount of overlap between the SuddenLink & Clearwire territories...
Things are gettin' quite interesting, folks.
Might be a good idea to not get locked into any long term contracts, if the environment is gonna change as much as it appears it might.
'bout time - I was trapped into a Sprint two year contract three+ years ago, under the promise that "Sprint will be upgrading your network by the end of the year." HA! So much for that one... |
