| Quote: | Sprint Extends 4G Leadership by Announcing Additional U.S. Markets for Sprint 4G
Sprint Reveals Plans to Launch 4G in 17 Additional Cities in Hawaii, Idaho, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas and Washington in 2009; Bringing Turbo-Charged Mobile Broadband to Customers On the Go
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Sprint, the first national wireless carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology, is extending its 4G leadership by launching the next-generation service across the country. Today, it announced the addition of 17 new markets to its national Sprint 4G roll-out plans. These additional markets join the previously announced markets of Atlanta; Chicago; Dallas-Fort Worth; Honolulu; Las Vegas; Portland, Ore.; Philadelphia and Seattle.
The new additions for 2009 are: Abilene, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Bellingham, Wash.; Charlotte, N.C.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Greensboro, N.C.; Killeen-Temple, Texas; Lubbock, Texas; Maui, Hawaii; Midland-Odessa, Texas; Raleigh, N.C.; Salem, Ore.; San Antonio, Texas; Waco, Texas; and Wichita Falls, Texas.
Sprint also expects to launch service in multiple markets in 2010, including Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
These markets will join Baltimore, where Sprint made history when it launched 4G in September 2008. As previously announced, Sprint 4G is scheduled for an August 2009 launch in Atlanta, Las Vegas and Portland, making the cities among the first in America to experience the lightning-fast speeds of the first wireless mobile 4G network from a national carrier. Additional information about launch plans and services in those cities will be announced soon.
Sprint 4G offers turbo-charged mobile broadband – with peak download speeds of more than 10 Mbps and average downlink speeds of 3-6 Mbps. Sprint 4G speeds and capabilities are three to five times faster than the 3G service offered by any national wireless carrier today, based on average download speeds. |

I sure hope that the 4G service does infact show up in Honolulu by the end of the year. I'm willing to start with wireless data, but am really looking for a 4G phone. Rumors of a Samsung 4G/Android phone really sound like something I would be interested in.
I was just at a local Sprint store and the "Retail Consultant" helping me resolve some account/billing issues told me he didn't expect 4G til end of 2010.
Wadday do with all this information and mis-information...whomever is right. All you can do is hope......and wait:) |

Sprint has finally launched their 4G service in Atlanta, Portland, and Las Vegas!
It is not a big surprise, of course, since their plan has always been to use Clear's network for their 4G, but Sprint's coverage has been limited to Baltimore for months while Clearwire rolled out several other cities. Hopefully in the future Sprint will be able to offer coverage wherever Clear does, much sooner. |

Maureen, this appears to be the case with what happened in West Texas recently. I've posted several times recently about Clear finally hittin' down here(1st of August). Well, just found out through a post here on this board that Sprint is now offering coverage for those same cities. So, could be Sprint is gonna be piggybacking on top of Clear much quicker in the future.
My thing now is to figure out whether to go w/Clear or w/Sprint. I currently have both, but will eventually drop one. Seems to be same coverage for both(no surprise), but I'm waiting to hear back from Clear about the 5G limit on Sprint's 3G service. They are very clear that the 4G areas do -not- have the 5G limit, but that the 3G areas do...
I'm on a discount plan w/Sprint, not available w/Clear, so may end up going w/Sprint and dropping Clear, but won't make up my mind for a couple of weeks(at least). |

| I hope that mircowave backhaul really works as advertised and doesn't give us 3G latencies like its Pre-WiMax network. because it's bad for videogames. |
