In many ways, 4G looks like the holy grail, especially for some poor smuck like me that lives in a "rural area".

Face the facts, my existing land land telco will have to spend big bucks to upgrade their piss poor copper phone lines to even get me vanilla dsl.

But I am within 5 miles of 3 or more cell phone networks that may be able to deliver 4G wireless internet.

And while I have seen the 4G forum wax eloquently at all the speed advantages of 4G, I have seen very little in terms of 4G extending the range
over 3G. And if 4G can lose the 5Gb/mo cap of 3G, I am really drooling.

Ya I know, 4g is in its infancy, but please tell me I will not have to wait until 2015 to see it.

The Sprint spinoff ClearWire is not looking good at this time for long distance rural area coverage on their WiMax 2.5 GHz band. At this time coverage is centered in heaver populated centers with little rural coverage.
Verizon LTE using the 700 MHz band may be the best hope for rural coverage by the big wireless outfits. At least in the KC area Verizon has and are in the process of building a very robust network in the rural parts of the state.
Other smaller Wireless providers offering WiMax may be your better bet for rural coverage in some areas.

Thank you for the reply xrayman, but the range answers tell me little.

Even something relative would help.

Does sprint 4G range from a tower equal their G3 range, or is it less or more.

Actually my preferred 4 G carrier is Verizon, one might expect a little more range with the lower 700MHZ frequency, or can we expect even more range improvement than that when 4G Verizon comes to my neck of the woods?
