|

As 4G WiMAX service from Clearwire/CLEAR, Sprint, Comcast, Time Warner, etc continues to expand and become available to more and more users, subscribers are inevitably going to be looking for gear that boosts the WiMAX signal so that they can use the service in more locations. Antennas, amplifiers, and repeaters (wireless amplifiers) are all available for 3G devices and have made a HUGE difference for countless 3G mobile broadband users, but thus far there is no comparable equipment that helps a consumer WiMAX modem draw in better signal.
We assume that eventually, such equipment WILL become available for WiMAX, and as it does, we'll report that here! If you're looking for a way to boost your WiMAX signal, stay tuned to this thread. |

There are now several Clearwire WiMax antennas on the market for boosting WiMax 4G signals.
Two I found on Ebay. Add www. to the links below to see them.
ebay.com/itm/Clearwire-WiMax-12dBi-Omni-Directional-Antenna-/370435661300#ht_2170wt_186
.ebay.com/itm/Clearwire-WiMax-Dome-Antenna-/370339802871?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5639f8eef7#ht_949wt_905
I'm going to be trying the domed one since I live in an apartment and can't put up a outside antenna due to the rules. |

I tried two of the Antennaes listed the first one was for a 2.4 which is below Clear standards. the next one was for a 2.1-2.7 but you need LOS for this one to work. Then I moved to an apratment this month. (with same restrictions you have)
5 Bars on the M modem 10 dots on the USB modem. Fantastic RSSI and CINR. Ping a little high. Fist 8 hours 9-14 Mbs. next 30hrs 2-4 Mbs then, except for maybe couble hours in the early am 500 to 600 Kbs D/L speeds. Found out my Modems were red- flagged .
here is PART of one complaint I sent to CLEAR ( I've made at least
Why after years of waiting on CLEAR to replace Cleaerwire...that service crumbles. It is suppose to be UNLIMITED. I finally got to a section where I can SEE the tower. Get 5 bars on M modem and 10 dots on USB modem. First they put restrictions on 3G usage. Now when using it for 48-72 hours on 4G they start limiting the D/L speed to LESS than 600Kbs. You need minimum of 750 Kbs for streaming ( with lots of buffering) and 1.5 Mbs for ideal. Plus my phone is connected too.
When they do this they should at least cut the bill in half, since you are getting half the service PROMISSED. Or at least provide a little vaseline when they do shaft us..I've used about 295MB of data to date.
PART OF THEIR RESPONSE TO ME
Karen: Clearwire reserves the right to engage in reasonable network management to protect the overall network, including analyzing traffic patterns and preventing the distribution of viruses or other malicious code. During periods of congestion, Clearwire uses various network management techniques, such as reducing the data rate of individual bandwidth intensive users whose use is negatively impacting other users.
Ricky P.: so 295MB of data is excessice usage????
Ricky P.: I could see reducing it... but 625Kbs
Karen: The term “unlimited” means that we will not place a limit on how much data you upload or download during a month or other particular period. However, the term “unlimited” does not mean that we will not take steps to reduce your data rate during periods of congestion or take other actions described in this AUP when your usage is negatively impacting the Internet experience of other subscribers to our Service.
Ricky P.: I say again 294 MB of data cause reduce to 625Kbs ???
Karen: I am sorry, but I do not have control when time of network congestion.
Karen: But Clearwire may perform reasonable network management such as reducing the data rate of bandwidth intensive users during periods of congestion even you are on unlimited plan.
Ricky P.: Though I disagree/complaining about the "reduction" I am complaining about how LOW they go...and putting a RED Flag on my modem...where automactically for dys or weeks, will not let me get beyond 750Kbs per second regardless of time of day _________________ RickyPHomeShop |
