Just found out from cradlepoint tech support that ctr-500 does not work with 4g in Texas? I performed router and modem upgrade and modem was shown as "offline". Modem was recognized by router and constantly tried to connect without success. Has anyone found anything different ? I would appreciate input.

An old topic, but I thought I would reply to clear up any confusion.

Your problem sounds like the "Realm" is not set correctly on the CTR500.
Modem Tab -> Settings -> Wi-Max Realm Select -> Select your carrier (Sprint, Clear, etc).

With this item not set correctly the router just constantly tries to authenticate.

Also, the CTR500 works fine with 4G in Texas. Just make sure that you are using a modem on the Cradlepoint supported list (check the release notes of the latest firmware), and have the latest firmware and wimax modem driver loaded.

Hi there , Im new here, so sorry to jump on an old thread, but it has been one of my issues/goals to accomplish as well.

I just got a Sierra 250U, and have used a cradlepoint CTR500 for years with my previous 3G card.

It seems kinda odd that the Cradelpoint tech, would not know about making sure the realm was set up correctly, and just default to say it did not work in Texas? I am in Florida, and wont get to try it with the cradelpoint until next week, when I am at that location.

But I wanted to ask, or just get reinforced, the process to make sure my CTR500 is up to date and ready for the 4G. Their website is rather strange and many links are dead or just say "no info". You have to kinda do gyrations around the site to find the process.

I have both the 172 firmware and 5226 modem drivers. The step by step to get them installed conflicted in a few places on their site.

One says to just use a flash drive, and go thru a few rounds of on/off, then login the the router to check the settings , and adjust the realms. The other says to update the firmware via the login page.

What is the best and most reliable procedure to get the firmware and driver all set up, to be able to get this working with the least amount of aggrivaton?

thanks,
Diane

Install the latest firmware 1.7.2 first then install the WiMAX modem driver and be sure to change the realm - Changing the WiMAX Realm on Cradlepoint Routers for 4G Modems

If you need any help getting things set up send us a email to support@3gstore.com with your order number and we'd be happy to send you detailed instructions on configuration.
