CLEAR's new iSpot allows you to connect up to 8 'i' enabled devices (iPod/iPhone/iPad) on their 4G network for only $25/month with unlimited data. This package could be the ultimate solution for power users wary of AT&T's new tiered data plans.

| I just wanted to send a quick note that the iSpot App also works with the Clear Spot 4G. |

CLEAR has released an iOS app that allows iSpot owners to view iSpot statistics such as signal strength & battery life, and also allows users to change various settings on the iSpot itself. While this application was designed specifically for iPhones & iPod touches, we have confirmed that it also works on the iPad as well. The "iSpot Manager" application can be downloaded from Apple's App Store on your iOS device or visit the official iSpot Manager page.

Anybody else pick up one of these for $20 during the sale?
I got one, but thanks to UPS dicking around on the Next Day Air for 3 days I am off until 2011 and out of 4G coverage. :::sigh:::
And of course where I will be vacationing next week does not have it either. So I have a shiny new toy but I can't even play with it at all since it does not do 3G.
The iPhone app is nice though. _________________ --Larry |

I think you missed it.
Was the device for $20 with no contract on the $25/mo unlimited 4G ONLY service. Looks to be back at the $99 price for the same plan now.
$46 at checkout (device+1st month+tax+free next day shipping). _________________ --Larry |

That sucked, but I bought it anyway. I'm not seeing anywhere near the claimed speeds using Speedtest - the best I've gotten is 1Mbps. I'll keep trying, but if I don't get better results this is going back to Clear.
I'm wondering if the sale last week was a dumping of the product. It's no longer mentioned on Clear's web site. |

| I tried the iSpot in a couple more locations in town and got much better results, especially in the Loop (Chicago's downtown area). Ping times still stink (250+ms) but download is ~7Mbps on average. Pity I can't achieve those speeds at home. |

LOL, awesome, you sure did.
Clear message boards appear to be pretty lame in general, but this should spice things up. At least it appears that we can keep the $25/month plan as long as you suspend instead of cancel service. _________________ --Larry |

I finally decided to go back to my office (which is in Clear coverage according to their maps). I am getting HORRIBLE speeds at RSSI -87, which is iPhone app and the web interface grade as 3/5 on their graph.
I have been getting 200-300ms pings with downloads around .3Mbps and uploads around .1Mbps... This is sitting in the window of my office while my iPhone 4 gets 10x the download and 5-6x the upload at my desk.
I guess I can try other locations and maybe other offices around the building but dang. _________________ --Larry |

I grew a brain cell and remembered the iSpot it portable so I went outside and stood on the same side of the building my office is on (4 floors up) and got MUCH better speeds of ~3.5-4.9Mbps down and around 1Mbps up. Pings were still pretty bad, 250-300+ ms. I was displaying 5/5 on the iPhone app outside and I am surprised that a double pane window would attenuate the signal that much. _________________ --Larry |

Sooo...
I have been loving using my iSpot while on vacation in Vegas and really wish I could get another one with the $25 4G only plan. _________________ --Larry |
