I've been a long time verizon customer. I'm curious to know some of the fall backs to what LTE has to offer when you reach holes/spotty areas.
For example. I'm in an area where "3G" was not a hot priority, but if finally came... but it was still spotty at first. When LTE rolls out, since it's totally new tech (correct me if i'm wrong), how would an LTE based phone work in a scenario where LTE signal wasn't avail? would it downgrade to a CDMA radio coverage area?
It's like an iPhone on AT&T.. if it can't get 3G coverage, it switches down to EDGE... but the difference with that is both their 3G and EDGE are GSM based.... |

Just like Sprint's WiMAX, Verizon's LTE service will be backwards compatible. So if you're not in an LTE market the phone would fall back to 3G or 2G depending on what's available.
Service should be launching sometime in November - Verizon Wireless 2010-2011 4G LTE Plans Leaked |
